Under the pen names of Harry and Elizabeth Lawrence, Betty Jo and her husband co-wrote IT HAD TO BE US, a romantic memoir that earned first place in the E-book category at the 2006 Hollywood Book Festival and was adapted for the screen under the title of CAKE: A LOVE STORY. This film won laurels on the film festival circuit, including first place in the short film category at the NSAEN International Online Film Festival and is now available on YouTube.
While serving as Dean of Humanities at San Diego Mesa College, Betty Jo supervised expansion of the film studies curriculum, designed an “Exploring Human Values through Film” course, coordinated the “Reel-To-Real Film Forum” program, and performed with the Mesa Musical Comedy Touring Troupe.
Betty Jo belongs to the Online Film Critics Society and is a founding member of the San Diego Film Critics’ Society as well as an approved Rotten Tomatoes critic.
